Hayes Porterfield, Sr. was born in Tennessee around 1865.  His mother and father were from Virginia.  Hayes was an educated man and could read and write.  He worked as a farmer.  In 1896 Hayes married Susan, who was born in North Carolina around 1880. Ten children were born to their union.  The family lived in Tipton and Shelby counties. Hayes, Sr. died around 1925. Susan lived past 1930 but her date of death is unknown. 

Moses Porterfield was born in Tennessee in 1901. 

Hayes Porterfield, Jr. was born in Tennessee December 30, 1902 and died December 15, 1993 at the ripe age of 90. He lived in Memphis his entire life.  Hayes married Mattie.

Rosa Porterfield was born in Tennessee in 1904. 

Beatrice Porterfield was born in Tennessee around 1907. 

Tom Porterfield was born in Tennessee July 26, 1907 and died in May of 1982.  At the age of 20 Tom married Texanna (from Tennessee) to which two children were born: Thomas, Jr. and Christella.  Texanna was born March 17, 1914 and died December 13, 1999.

John (Henry) Porterfield was born in Tennessee April 23, 1910 and died October 21, 2000 at the age of 90.  Henry married Teola Robbie Hunter, the daughter of Hannah (Brown) and Lemuel Hunter from Tennessee.  Henry and Teola had 7 children: Eldridge (Pap), Viola, Louise, Ethel (Wee Wee), Ruby, Richard and Rose.

Sidney O. Porterfield was born in Tennessee February 12, 1912 and died March 13, 2007.

Nancy Porterfield was born in Tennessee in 1913. 

Lovett Porterfield was born in Tennessee in 1916.

Macey Porterfield was born in Tennessee May 17, 1918 and died July 8, 1999.
